Making Pterosaurs Fly
2. Ernst Stromer 1913
Ernst Stromer was inspired by the Rhamphorhynchus wing membranes that were published in the 1880's. With the wing membrane known in its general proportions, it did not take long to develop a glider that would test the basic gliding capability of this species. Stromer produced a flying glider in 1913 which demonstrated that Rhamphorhynchus could glide easily with the known wing form.
Ernst Freiherr Stromer von Reichenbach (1870 – 1952) was a renowned German Palaeontologist credited with the discovery of Spinosaurus and Aegyptosaurus. The title Freiherr is essentially a civil rank equating to Baron in English.
